Chime, Ekweremadu in first international flight from Akanu Ibiam Airport

Deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, and Enugu State governor, Sullivan Chime, were among 58 passengers on-board the first international passenger flight to take off from Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

The Addis Ababa-bound Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 aircraft, took off 2.20 p.m. on Saturday.

It had earlier made history as the first passenger international flight to Enugu, arriving at 12.10 p.m. with 20 passengers on-board from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The administration of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua had in November 2007 granted approval for the upgrade of Akanu Ibiam Domestic Airport, Enugu, to an international airport.
